What is BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny)?
BaZi (pronounced "bah-zee") is a Chinese astrology system that uses your birth date and time to create your personal chart. Think of it like a Chinese version of a birth chart, but instead of planets, it uses four "pillars" - one for your birth year, month, day, and hour.
Each pillar has two Chinese characters. Together, these four pillars (eight characters total) tell a story about who you are, your personality, and what might happen in your life.
The Four Pillars
Think of each pillar like a chapter of your life story. Year = your family and roots. Month = your career and social life. Day = who you are at your core. Hour = your inner thoughts and legacy. Together, they make up your unique personality blueprint.
The 60-Year Cycle
Chinese astrology uses a special 60-year repeating cycle. It combines 10 elements (like Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) with 12 zodiac animals (like Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit). Your birth date falls somewhere in this cycle, which determines your chart.
Fun Fact
BaZi means "Eight Characters" in Chinese because your chart has 4 pillars × 2 characters = 8 characters total. These 8 characters are like a code that reveals your personality, natural talents, challenges, and life patterns.
Understanding the Four Pillars
Each pillar tells you something different about your life. Here's what they mean in simple terms:
Year Pillar
This is about your family, childhood, and where you come from. It shows your roots and how your family background shaped you. Think of it as your foundation.
Month Pillar
This is about your career, work life, and how you interact with others. It's especially important for understanding your job and social relationships. This is often the most important pillar for career advice.
Day Pillar
This is about YOU - your true self, your core personality, and who you are at your deepest level. It also relates to your spouse and your middle-age years. The top character in this pillar is called your 'Day Master' - it's the most important part of your chart.
Hour Pillar
This is about your inner thoughts, your children, and what you'll leave behind in life. It shows your private self and what happens in your later years. Think of it as your legacy.
